HAND PAINTED SILK:
It was the colours and the stained- glass effect of painted silk that first appealed to Jane. The techniques involved are a combination of traditional batik (wax resist and dyeing) and watercolour painting. A resist called "gutta" is drawn onto stretched silk, then water-based dyes are painted on by hand. Colours can be intense or diluted and subtle. Unique textural effects can be created using various absorbent substances such as rock salt.
Jane uses fibre-reactive dyes ( that react with the animal protein in the silk), that are fixed by a lengthy steaming process which enhances the colours and makes the fabric fast to light and washing. As these dyes appear like coloured water, they can be applied using traditional watercolour techniques, such as working wet-in-wet, or wet over dry. Batik techniques of dyeing successively deeper shades before and after waxing certain areas can also be explored.
For Jane it is the perfect medium to combine her drawing and painting skills with the lustre and versatility of silk. She produces a wide range of work, with each piece being individually hand painted: Cards, Bookmarks, Candles, Spectacle cases, Purses, Scarves (long and square), Shawls, Vests, Mounted and Stretched Paintings and Wallhangings.
Her style is quite figurative, with realistic drawing and a lot of painterly effects. Nearly all her work has an Australiana theme, and she loves to explore the vibrant colours of underwater scenes and wildflowers, as well as the more subtle tones found in our landscapes and wildlife.
Jane's work is available from her home studio at wholesale prices. Commissions can be discussed, and prices will vary according to the size and intricacy of the design.

LINDA JOYCE:

LINDA JOYCE is best described as a Contemporary Realist, whose works capture the Spirit of Life in the Australian Bush & Outback. She was formally trained in Commercial Art & worked in Advertising & Graphic design for 18 years before going Bush in 1990 (living on a property near Cooma in the Snowy Mountains of NSW). She was actually returning to her roots, as she was born and spent her early childhood in the area, and this is where she was able to leave behind the commercial world and pursue her love for fine art. She started exhibiting her work in 1994 in Regional exhibitions and won many awards.

Circumstances forced a move back to the ÒBig SmokeÓ, Sydney, but her heart still lies in the Bush and every year she make numerous trips there, especially to areas around the Monaro and Outback NSW. Linda thrives in these vast, harsh, dry environments and she finds everything about life in the Bush inspirational Ð from the landscape, the people, the animals and birds, down to everyday objects. Her works have been well received in the city by both the Public and Judges alike, having won 14 ÒPeopleÕs Choice AwardsÓ as well as numerous other awards in the past 10 years. She loves working in different mediums, especially Acrylics on canvas & handmade paper, Charcoal, Graphite, Gouache & Pastels.

JOHN KEPSKI:

John considers himself a sculptor rather than a woodworker. All his boxes have drawers but their shapes and textures are what really matters. All boxes are made from one piece of wood and each box has a unique shape.

John spent his career in the corporate world in Industrial Psychology and in Human Resources and Training. Since retirement he has concentrated on sculptured box making and his creations have found homes worldwide. Many of his creations are used as very special and unique presents and have also been used as gifts for overseas diplomats.

JANIN MAYER:

Janin was originally self-taught and has been painting and drawing for the past 14 years. In 2007 she received a scholarship at Sydney College of the Arts for a Masters in Studio Arts. On completion she travelled overseas to paint and work in Asia, returning to Australia to continue her study.

At the start of 2012 she commenced further post graduate study, undertaking a Masters in Fine Arts, majoring in drawing at COFA (UNSW Fine Art department). She continues working and exhibiting in Sydney.

As an artist she takes an existentialist viewpoint in that she believes in actively constructing meaning within all things she creates. The body and our natural environment, as portrayed by Janin, is a thing of beauty and of romance. She does not identify with nihilistic, segregated, abstracted and objectified portrayals of the body that are commonly present in modern representations of the body.

For her, the body is an instrument which we are bound to, that we use with which to understand and explore the world with, and to express our individual meanings of being and existence.

Writings by philosophers such as Merleau-Ponty have heavily influenced her thinking in that he discusses the inextricable relationship between thought and sensory being. An embodiment of thought, if you like, is what he argues to be the fundamental corner stone of human consciousness , and one can not be had without the other.

Her focus of expression, is by choice, one of beauty, tenderness and a sort of magical adoration of the world we live and exist in.

ROGER GAMBOTTO:

Having had an appreciation for ceramics since his schooling days, Roger has been hard at his "hobby" for years. Only 2 years ago, he took an even more involved look at working specifically with wheel throwing, studying the techniques of Cameron Williams. In turn, he successfully opened his first retail studio and pottery school only 12 months ago. In this time he has begun to delve into the world of glazes and is seeking to further his education in that area. Ceramics has become Roger's full time passion.

Roger has recently relocated his pottery studio to Castlecrag, where he now teaches classes. If you are interested in pottery classes, please call Roger on: 411 111 969 or 9967 4417.

The Jungle Chalet is Don's creation. From colourful leadlight windows, to a labyrinth & glass-art letterbox in the driveway, all are on display. These & the various stages of the Watergarden Installation form an intricate & integral component of the unique Jungle Chalet. If you have a glass-art idea for your home, are interested in a water feature, or interested in the sculpture, fountains or root furniture, talk to Don about it this weekend.

Don is best known as a Comedian who writes customised comedy for all occasions, from birthdays to Corporate occasions, like conferences and Christmas parties. His trademark 'Chookmobile' art-car is probably the most photographed vehicle in Australasia, and has toured extensively with Don throughout Australia [surviving the Nulabour Plains & skifields to the sea], as well as appearing in photo albums and newspapers throughout the World. If only Don could claim 1¢ per photo, his next 'Chookmobile' would surely be a 'Paltry Porche'. Don is transforming his home into a natural artscape, with prolific installations to replicate the movement of water. The past 6 exhibitions have featured stages of his Watergarden Installation. You will enjoy the Reservoir Illusion and the Sculptured Rainforest Walk. When the pumps are operating, the Jungle Chalet is now 90% circumnavigated by water. Leadlight panels created by Don adorn many of the windows. On Saturday nights these will be lit up & combined with colourful flower lights, streams & waterfalls...in a fascinating wonderland...So come & enjoy the ambience of art with nature.
